When a new patient walks through the doors of Queen Street Chiropractic Centre, it generally means that they have been suffering with an injury or injuries for a significant length of time. New patients, especially those who have never been to a Chiropractor, often have varying degrees of anxiety regarding what to expect with their treatment. This series of posts are designed to outline what to expect as a patient of Queen Street Chiropractic Centre.
The first visit to a Chiropractor may often lead to uncertainty and some apprehension on the part of a patient. Popular culture tends to represent Chiropractors as “back crackers” and likens a visit to a Chiropractic clinic to a trip to a Medieval dentist. This could not be further from the truth, as Chiropractic care (and Dentistry for that matter) are safe and effective means of health-care that need not be associated with pain.
Setting up your first visit to Queen Street Chiropractic Centre could not be any easier. Chiropractic care does not require a referral from your Medical Doctor. After booking an appointment (905-623-9297), or walking in for that matter, you will be directed to one of our five Chiropractors for an initial assessment of your injuries.
The initial assessment involves obtaining information about your medical history with regards to past injuries, medications, surgeries etc. in order to get a sense of your overall health. Once the history is obtained, a focussed physical is performed on the injuries and structures in question to ascertain the level of damage and whether any referral is necessary. Radiographs (x-rays) or further imaging may be recommended, although this only occurs in rare instances.
Once the history and physical have been performed, the Doctor will outline the treatment plan to be employed. Treatment plans and therapies are tailored to each individual, and are designed to repair damaged tissues and restore full range of motion and functioning to the afflicted structures.
Length of treatment may vary depending on the level of injury. However, in general treatment plans work on a graded scale. In the acute phase (check “Natural Course of Musculoskeletal Injuries” on this site for what this term means) treatment will consist of 1-3 visits per week to reduce inflammation and stimulate healing. Once out of the acute phase, the treatment frequency tails off significantly until function is restored to the injured body area. At this point a maintenance plan will be recommended, although the patient is under no obligation to continue treatment and no contracts will ever need to be signed.
During the initial visit, and with all subsequent visits, the goal of the Doctors of Queen Street Chiropractic Centre is to alleviate pain, repair damaged tissues, and restore functionality to the injured areas of the body and the body as a whole in an efficient manner and with No Pain.
Dealing with an injury is frightening enough, and that is why the Doctors of Queen Street Chiropractic Centre are committed to making your Chiropractic care safe and rewarding, so book an appointment today and begin feeling better!
